About Tajik National University

Tajik National University (TNU) is the only university in Tajikistan with special National status. Ranked #1 by UniRank in 2024 and #23 in Asian University Rankings for Central Asia, TNU has strengthened its leadership in the higher education system of the Republic of Tajikistan throughout the 21st century.

TNU forms the image of university education in the republic, implements a system of continuous professional education, and expands educational programs at bachelor’s, specialist, master’s, and doctoral PhD levels. It trains specialists for many sectors of the national economy as well as for countries across Central Asia, the CIS, and the SCO. TNU has introduced a credit training system that corresponds to the Bologna system.

Student Enrollment

There are 25,736 students studying at TNU, of which 18,782 students (73%) are enrolled in full-time studies (as of 12/30/2020). Of the total number of students, 9,461 (36.8%) are women. There are 1,417 students enrolled in Master’s and Doctoral PhD programs at TNU, which is 5.5% of the total number of university students.


Rector’s Message

Nasriddinzoda Emomali Saifiddin

Nasriddinzoda Emomali Saifiddin was born on July 2, 1966 in the Republic of Tajikistan. He graduated from the Tajik State Pedagogical University in 1990, and in 2003 from the Tajik National University with a degree in Jurisprudence. He was appointed Rector of TNU by a decree of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan on January 16, 2024.

TNU is the largest government university in Tajikistan with world-class facilities:

  • Total campus area of 102,000 m²; a new 18,164 m² building was commissioned in early 2021

International Collaboration

360 Cooperation Agreements with Foreign Universities

The development of international scientific and educational relations is one of the main priorities of TNU. Over the past 5 years (2016–2020), TNU concluded cooperation agreements and memorandums of understanding with 186 universities and research centers of foreign countries, with a total of 289 foreign partners.

TNU has partnerships with leading universities around the world, including:

Diplomatic Relations: India & Tajikistan

The bilateral relations between the Republic of India and the Republic of Tajikistan have developed considerably owing to both nations’ co-operation on security and strategic issues. India has set up its first overseas military base Farkhor in Tajikistan. India also assisted in building Ayni Hospital.

Admission & Registration Process

Upon arrival at Tajik National University:

  1. Your passport must be registered by the Ministry of Interior of Tajikistan within 5 days (excluding holidays and weekends).
  2. Assistance will be provided for registration and visa extension.
  3. Passports must be submitted to the Department of International Affairs 1 month before the visa expiration date.
  4. Failure to comply with registration and visa terms may result in a fine imposed by the Ministry of Interior of Tajikistan.
  5. Original documents along with translated copies must be submitted to the university for the admission process.
