What is Foreign Medical Graduate Exam?
The Foreign Medical Graduates Examination, popularly known as the FMGE Exam is conducted by the National Board of Examination (NBE) twice a year. Introduced on 15th March 2002, this exam is meant for an Indian citizen who has completed his/her MBBS abroad and wants to practice in India. An individual needs to clear the FMGE Exam as it’s only after this that the candidate will be registered by the Medical Council of India (MCI) {Now the National Medical Commission(NMC)} or any state medical council.
Candidates who completed their MBBS outside the country before 15 March 2002 are exempted from appearing in this exam to practice in India. It is NOT an entrance test to get admission to a master’s course offered by any medical university in India. It is just a medical licensing exam.
FMGE Exam Frequency
As far as the frequency of the exam is concerned, candidates can either appear in the December session or the December session. There is NO LIMIT on the number of attempts for a candidate as well as no age limit for the FMGE Exam as well. This means that even candidates who have failed in their earlier attempts can reappear as many times as they want. The FMGE registration process will be the same.
